13 yr old Female JR in mourning?

Vets always say dogs live in the moment. I don't think that's true for JR's. Our Oscar, who we had for 13 years, passed away 2 days ago. Our Sadie, who we've had for almost 14 years seems to be in mourning. She appears to be waiting for him by the back door, moping, and ensuing I do not get too far out of her line of sight. What can we do to help her?

Jack Russell loss

I'm so sorry to hear about your Oscar. It is commin for dogs to grieve just like humans do. We had 2 JRT's and when one passed away, the other one did similar to what your Sadie is doing. It just broke my heart! When we took her to my Mother's house she got excited because she could pick up Chloe's scent and then ran around looking for her and then was very sad when she couldn't find her. From what I read, the best way to help a dog get over a loss of their canine companion is to give your dog lots of love and affection, engage her in activities you know she finds fun - like ball chasing, long walks, hiding toys for her to find, etc. If there are people she likes, invite them ove or take her places she likes to visit. Lucy is now deceased as well, but at the time giving her distractions was very helpful.
