2nd Jack Russell?

Hi all,

My wife and I currently have a 1yr old male mini jrt. We adopted him 6mths ago and things are fine. We're currently being asked if we could adopt another mini, same age bitch. Both dogs are neutered and seemed to get along when they met.

My question is: is having 2 jrt's more work than having one? I think it'll reduce my having to provide for my dog's constant need for entertainment since he'd have another playmate? But what's it like to have 2 jrts? My dog's quite well trained, decent recall etc. The new dog isn't necessarily as well trained. Will that cause my dog to be naughty?

Thanks for any advice u may have.

Ps: we live in a small flat and are expecting our first child. We manage to walk our dog 3 times a day, one of which is an hour long run. Weekends are typically longer.

Hey jeni,

We've just brought her home. They haven't killed each other yet so I suppose there's still hope! The male's been constantly trying to engage the female in 'rough play' so I'm just watching to make sure it doesn't get silly.

Thanks for ur words of envouragement!

why not 2??
by: Jeni

Hello fellow JRT parent! We have a male 2 yrs and female 9 months old. We adopted the female about a year after adopting our male. They are best buddies. Must do every thing together. Wrestling and chasing are their favorite activity and sleeping too! I recommend companion dogs. You are correct they will allow you to relax and watch them play rather than one demanding allot attention. Although they both still love to play with human too!

Good luck!
