a poo problem!

by Laura
(milton keynes)

my soon to be 8 year old jack Russell cross is starting to poo himself when he is a sleep, and was wondering if this is normal for his age or breed?
Its only happened a couple of times, I come home to find bit of poo on his bed and one night when watching tv he did it right in front of me. But he was fast asleep and he didn't even now he was doing it :(. Can you help me answer my question? Laura

Poo problem

What concerns me is that your Jack doesn't know this is happening. Poor guy! I would definitely get it checked out by a vet. Sometimes it is a sign of cognitive dysfunction that happens when dogs age. Or something neurological (I hope it's neither of these things!!). If this is the case there are some special prescriptive dog foods and medicines that your vet can recommend to you.
