My jack russell is 13, she has recently had 3 of these incidents:

She yelps continuously and then her back legs give way and she can't stand up. Has anyone come across this? thanks

13 yr old falling down
by: Paddy's mom

Possibly spinal disc involvement? The way they blast around, and land hard, it wouldn't surprise me. Try to make sure the dog isn't landing hard, and further exacerbating the problem. Get to the vet tho, to find out, as these things CAN be helped and pain can be managed.

YELPING IN PAIN
by: Anonymous

Hopefully you've had a vet check him out. About 4 yrs ago, my JR (about 8 at the time), had a similar issue. He bcame lethargic, hanging his head, then collapsed. Prednisone worked and he was back up walking but it took a long time to get his legs working well again. The vet thought perhaps white shaking dog syndrome if you want to google it, or perhaps some type of inflammation of the central nervous system. He has had several less severe episodes since, perhaps brought on by stress. I have been giving him 500mg of fish oil daily, and when he has the episodes, the Prednisone seems to work, or perhaps he would get better without it. He has yelped in the past when getting up. I also give him glucosamine chontroitin for dogs. Hope this helps but he needs to be under a vet's care if the yelping is continuous.
