I got my JRT puppy March 3rd; he'll be 12 wks old on the 19th. He's happy, healthy, smart & quiet--too quiet! I've heard him whine, yelp (cat got too rough with him) & play growl, but he's never, ever barked. Even when my Lab barks, Gage is quiet. Should I be concerned? His hearing is fine; he knows his name and is 95% potty trained. My daughter has a 2 yr old JRT & he's extemely vocal--always has been. The lack of bark is bothering me.

Still no bark :)
by: Jane

Well, Gage is 6 months old and still doesn't bark. He quietly growls and woofs at his reflection and when our Lab barks. He's totally potty-trained, but I have to watch for him to go to the door. My daughter and her very vocal 2 yr. old Jack visited 2 weeks ago--the dogs got along great & Gage didn't "pick up" on the barking :) This pup is not shy, reserved or calm, he's just quiet, smart, pretty much fearless, loves water, good with everyone. The lab is the alpha dog and sometimes loses patience with the Jack, but has done wonders helping train him! I agree, a quiet JRT is a GOOD thing :)

It took my Jack a while before she barked, she still doesn't bark like most JRT's, which I guess is a good thing. She just barks when there is someone outside she doesn't know and when she wants to go outside to potty. Other than that, she's pretty quiet.

Like people....each dog has their own personality. If he's young he might find his voice later but a calm, quiet JRT is a good thing! LoL
