Buddy's dad

by David
(Salem or)

Buddy is an eighteen yr old jack Russell . He has been in great health for his age. He has begun to have seizures. Usually coming out of sleep. He has only had five or six of these .
He does not appear to be in pain.
Q. Is he in pain from the seizures?
Q. Age related?
Thanks for a reply.

Jack having seizures
by: James

Wow, 18 is pretty up there in years for a doggie. Seizures can definitely be age related (secondary to issues with the brain, kidney or something along those lines.) and I doubt there is any pain involved. Most dogs don't know they are having them. They just might be a little out of it right after the seizure occurs. Any seizure lasting more than a minute or two would be considered en emergency. You vet may have some anti seizure medicine to suggest.
