dental work

My Jack Russell is 15yrs old with very bad plaque buildup and bad breath. The vet says she needs cleaning and apx 4-5 teeth pulled costing about $900.00
How dangerous is it for a dog this old and is there a chance of gum disease and infections eventually in the liver and kidneys if the procedure is not done

Jack Russell dental care
by: Paul

We faced something similar. Our senior Jack needed some extensive dental care and we opted out of it due to the expense, our dog's older age and the toll of being under anesthesia might take. Our vet was able to give us antibiotics instead which doesn't solve the dental problem but can cut down on the risk of secondary infections. Some vets require blood work to give out the prescription and others don't. We found one that didn't.
Hope this helps!
