We have a jack russell x border 75% Jack 25% Border. He had Kennel cough a while ago (Nov2011). Just lately a couple of times he has had a couple of breathing issues. Or at least it sounds like that. Almost like a snoring sound as he breathes in and out. It last for 5 sometimes 10 seconds and then goes. He eats fine, runs fine and is acting normal other than this. both times it has happened he had either just woken up or just come in from the cold. Any ideas anyone?

Reverse sneezing
by: Lisa

Hi Dionne,
I'm wondering if your Jack has reverse sneezing. During a reverse sneeze, your dog will make rapid and long inspirations, stand still, and extend his head. A loud snorting sound is produced, which may make you think the dog has something caught in his nose. This spasm narrows the airway and makes it temporarily more difficult for the dog to take in air. Factors that may be associated with reverse sneezing include excitement, eating or drinking, exercise, physical irritation of the throat such as from pulling on a leash, respiratory tract mites, allergies, irritating chemicals such as perfumes or household cleaners, viral infections, foreign bodies caught in the throat, and post-nasal drip. It can last a few seconds or a few minutes. The sneeze usually sounds worse then it actually is and there is not too much to do about it. You may want to to talk to your vet though to make sure it isn't anything else. You can also look up examples of reverse sneezing on youtube to see if it sounds like what your Jack is doing.

Hope this helps!
