Hi I crate trained my jack from day one. He'll go in at night around 830-9 pm until about 8 the next morning. Most mornings he doesn't want to come out...lol! However, I feel so bad when he's crated more than a few hours during the day. I am wayyyy too attached to Jack, and I have huge seperation anxiety from him. I work from home and he gets put away on a busy day quite often but is so good about it. Otherwise he's loose and by my side all the time. It does make being social hard for me as I feel so bad to go out and crate him. I am getting better at it. If I didn't have a cat he would never be crated, I would sleep with him. My husband thinks I'm crazy but I think he's just as crazy about Jack as I am.

Just read the question, is it ok to crate 14 hours every day! Sorry but the answer has to be 'definitely not'!! It is far too long to leave a dog alone & perhaps you should reconsider whether a dog is really what u want.

No! on occasion it is ok for up to 6 or 7 hrs but even that should not be frequent. I have a JRT that was crated before being rescued (hoarding situtation) he may have been crated for years - I don't know, but he was overweight when I go him, had trouble walking long distance as he most likely was never exercised, suffered separation anxiety. I could go on, but now 3 years later he has begun suffering from an immune disorder that I think may be related to the stress of his early years. These are very social animals and need a lot of human interaction and release for their energy. A dog day care center may be the answer if you have no other solution.
