We have rescued a JRT and find him irresistible. We are seasoned pet owners and now have 4 dogs in all. The JRT has made himself a new home by polite overtures to the other dogs and obeying commands. My question is this: All the pictures of JRTs that I can find show their ears to drop. This dog has straight, pointed ears much like a Doberman. Is this a breed variation? or do I have a Rat Terrier.

Jack Russell or Rat Terrier
by: Barbara

Congrats on your addition and thanks for rescuing a dog! Pointed ears usually is a sign of a Rat Terrier. Jack Russells are usually heavier in build. They have longer bodies and shorter legs. You could have yourself a Jack Rat Terrier - a hybrid mix between a Jack Russell and Jack Rat. Either way, sounds like you have a great pup on your hands.
