grass eating problem with my JRT

by Chris
(Sarasota, FL)

I have a 14 year old JRT; she has an issue where she begins to cough/hack and has an uncontrollable urge to eat grass; if we do not let her out to graze, she will eat carpet, whatever she can get...she'll even lick the floor. After eating the grass, she will throw it up and seem to be fine. Our vet thinks it may be mental, even a type of senility; has anyone else had this problem? Thanks.

Jack Russell eating grass

Some dogs eat grass because they like it and others eat it to aid in digestion/help them throw up. I agree with the other poster. He may have some stomach issues. I would try a different vet....

I have a solution
by: Sprockie JRT

Maybe you should buy a dog food with rice or high digestibility. My JRT did that before we started giving him Purina ONE. Grass helps with digestibility, how ever it gets caught in their throats and scratches it so they can't help but throw it up, but will be totally fine afterwards.
I doubt your vet is right because my JRT did the same thing and was not like that.
