grass eating problem with my JRT

I have a 14 year old JRT; she has an issue where she begins to cough/hack and has an uncontrollable urge to eat grass; if we do not let her out to graze, she will eat carpet, whatever she can get...she'll even lick the floor. After eating the grass, she will throw it up and seem to be fine. Our vet thinks it may be mental, even a type of senility; has anyone else had this problem? Thanks.
