Dog school will help
by: Anonymous

Sounds you like you spoil him. He needs a leader that sets rules and sticks to them. JRT were bred as hunting dogs and appreciate a strong hand that leads them. Go to dog school and learn how to be a leader. It will work provided you actually follow through with the training. And I should add, training can be a lot of fun and it should be integrated into your routine with the dog. For example, play with your dog after you have made it learn to walk heel, or on a leash without pulling, to sit when you stop. playtime should be a reward.

Paddy too.
by: Anonymous

I don't have much help for you I am afraid. Paddy gets very excited about any visitors. I have learned it does not matter WHAT kind of visitor, squirrell, dog walking by, neighbor walking by, sparrow, or real human visitors. Recently, when I had guests, I put Paddy in his crate. I cannot force him to calm down. He has to teach it to himself I guess. He also gets overly excited when traveling. He did better on a short trip, in his crate than sitting beside me tethered. He is very very sweet and loving and so wants to please. We'll just have to figure out to take care of our own needs with these wild n crazy guys I guess!
