We have a 9 year old female JRT. We are getting a new female lab beagle mix. Is this a mistake?

New puppy to an older Jack
by: Ariana

Congrats on your upcoming puppy. This is not a mistake if you make the introductions very slowly. The first meeting should take place on neutral ground (out of the house at a park or a sidewalk). And with that, keep it very short and sweet with a little time to sniff each other and give each one treats periodically. No more than 5-10 minutes. The next time take them both of them for a parallel walk. Once they have met off territory, repeat the introduction in your home yard—off leash if it’s fenced. Call the dog and puppy apart every few minutes to ensure they don’t become too excited. Then have them re meet in the house - first put the puppy in the house and then bring in the older dog.

Good luck!
