Invisible Fences and Jack Russell Terriers

by Dolores

Purchased book online and am using it. Wondering if you have any feedback on invisible fences? Are JRT's o.k. with them or do they just jump or charge through? Thank you.

Invisible fences

There are some positives and negatives about invisible fences. In terms of the negatives, Jack Russells and Jack Russell mixes are born to hunt and run and don't let anything get in there way. If the the invisible fence is not set properly or your dog is very determined, he may be able to run through it. And it doesn't keep other animals out of your yard such as other dogs, squirrels, birds, etc. Also, if your dog is a unfortunately won't keep your yard from being dug up :-)
However, proper training can alleviate many of these issues but your dog will probably still need someone to keep on eye on him just in case. This may (or may not) fit into what you wanted out of the fence. Many JRT owners do choose to put in a regular fence for these reasons.
