Is it normal?

I've jsut got a jack russell puppy. He is 8 weeks old, and i've noticed he has began to try and bite things. I understand that his teeth are hurting him and he wants them to fall out, and he gets told off if he tries to bite a person. However recently i saw him biting his right back foot, and wondered if this was normal or maybe it was hurting him or there was a problem?

Is It Normal
by: Robbin's Rescued Russells

Congratulations on your new family member. Your puppy’s teeth shouldn’t be bothering him yet and he won’t be losing them for a while. It is normal for EVERY puppy to be “mouthy”. They use their mouth kind of like we use our hands. They use their mouths to discover their environment. Yes sometimes puppies will chew their feet or put them in their mouths just as human babies do. This is all part of their education. Keep an eye on him because as adults Jack’s that aren’t getting enough mental and or physical stimulus/exercise will chew their feet/tail or continuously lick their feet... I have seen Jacks that have been rescued from shelters that will lick their feet until the hair is completely gone and they lick until they have lesions on their feet. Try giving him toys, treats that are appropriate for him to play and chew on.

Hope this helps
by: Georgette Fleet

Hi, Your puppy is just teething like a baby does, should get your Jack Russell a teething toy to bite on or a chewable treat. Maybe just biting his foot cause he has a flea. Hope this helps!
