Itching, scratching & biting his skin

How can I help my 2 year old jack russell Stanley, he is so uncomfortable

Itching, scratching & biting his skin. I took him to the vet a couple of
weeks ago and he was given a steroid injection, i really don't want him
to have steroids regularly. Is there something else I can do to help him?
I have a skin calming shampoo & a skin soothing cream which don't
appear to work very well. I also brush him & wipe him down with a
wet cloth when we return from our walks. Please advise.

Itching Problems
by: Betty

Hi Julie,
I sympathize with you. Our Darby (JR) is 4 and we go through this real often. It makes me want to cry for her. She bit her tail so much the hair was off the end and red places all over her. We tried medicaid-ed spray,Oat Meal rubs, liquid Benedrail and vinegar. Then got Sargent's Blue Jell oh and we bought an Alvera plant and I would break off a piece and open it up and rub that on her. It all helped some. The bad part is it just has to run it's course, which is hard on everyone. She has had it 2 months this time. Finally I can say she is much better. I bathe her at least 2 times a week and she loves to get in the water, seems to ease her. If we only knew what sets it off we might could prevent it. If you ever run across something that will help quicker let me know. We love her so much and hate to see her suffer at anything.

Apple cider vinegar
by: Anonymous

Although it has that strong vinegar smell to it for a short time, mixing up a 50/50 solution of apple cider vinegar and water in a spray bottle will give your dog some amount of relief. It will not rid the dog of issues unless they are related to bacteria infections, but does soothe the skin quite well.

Scratching
by: Betty

Julie,
Our Darby is 4 years old and 2 times a year we go through this. We feel so sorry for her and have tried what you have, does not work enough to get her to get comfortable. Our Vet said he could put her through a lot of test, which are expensive and shots and it might help. We have not done that.

One thing we have found in the last 3 days is that if we make her a bowl of Pure Chamomile Tea you buy in bags at the groc. and replace it with her water, she does seem to get some relief. She still itches, but not as often and as much. She does sleep some from it. Otherwise, we are up all night with her.
I am with you, if anyone out there has a better solution please let us know.
Betty
