Jack Russell Chihauhua Keeps Nipping

We have a JRT that is a mix with a Chihuahua. She is 9 months old and has done well with training but gets very excited when she is playing with us and nips at our fingers and hands.

Suggestions on how to correct this would be appreciated.

Nip the nipping in the bud
by: Jackson

Nipping is a way for puppies to explore their world. Especially Jack Russell's who are easily excitable. Make sure you are not revving him up when you are playing. There is some information on this website about it - that's where I got my info and it helped me. I bought the ebook which was really helpful for me since my Jack was my first dog ever.
Have a lot of chew toys around - kong, bones, etc. When my Jack was young and was nipping I would distract him with a bone or frisbee game. If that didn't work, I would do the muzzle grip (it's the same grip a mother would use). You put your hand over the puppy's mouth and look him in the eyes and say "no". Do this for a few seconds. Then, praise him for not biting and give him a chew toy. If the biting still occurs, then try getting up and walking away so that the puppy learns that biting leads to lack of attention (I didn't need to do this).

Hope this helps!!!
