Jack Russell Fighting

I have a 2 year old Chihuahua, a 4 year old bichon frise, an 8 month old Great Dane and an 8 month old Jack Russell Terrier. We got the Great Dane 4 months ago, and about 3 months ago we found the Jack Russell Terrier by our house. The vet said she was about 5 months at the time. Well over the last month or two, when our Great Dane tries to play with our Chihuahua (by jumping around like a crazy dog) our Chihuahua growls at her. (our great dane is not being aggressive just trying to play) Well then the Jack Russell comes and starts fighting with our Chihuahua. Last night it was the worst it has gotten yet. We have fallen in love with this little Jack Russell and we do not want to find her a new home. But if this problem persists we will have to do something. Please help!!

Jack Russell is fighting

Because you found this little pup and don't know much about her background information, it's possible that she had a rough homelife prior to coming to you. She probably isn't well socialized. Before anything gets worse, it may be worth a try to enroll her in obedience classes. It's a good way to socialize your dog while teaching her valuable skills. If you are thinking about keeping her, the knowledge of a pet behavior therapist would probably be useful as well. This is the perfect time to nip it in the bud because it is just starting, but I am afraid if it were to get any worse.

In the meantime it sounds like you are going to have to anticipate when these situations that lead to fighting are going to occur and then make sure you go about preventing them - so for example, redirecting the great dane when he tried to play fight with the chihuahua. Or if there is downtime, keep them each busy with a peanut butter filled kong.

Hope this helps a little.
