Jack Russell nutrition

I just got a jack russell. Yogi is 3 months old. He is small which leads me to believe he may have been the runt of the litter but he's darling nonetheless. What I am wondering about is what kind of food to give him. I have him on Wellness puppy. He loves it. But he eats constantly and doesn't seem to gain weight. I know they are high energy dogs but would that preclude from gaining weight? And is wellness a good food for them?

Hi Yvonne,
Have you tried a raw foods diet(homemade dog food)? That is usually a good way to go with young ones. I prepare my dogs meals in advance and then freeze them. It sounds like a lot of work but it isn't. I spend a few hours on a Sunday and have many meals for the week. I think it's the healthiest way to go over any of those dog foods on the market.

Weight gain

It sounds like your puppy has a healthy appetite and you are feeding it good natural food. Some dogs, especially runts are prone to be smaller. I would double check with your Vet about weight gain and what is appropriate for someone of his size and age just in case there is an underlying thyroid or other health issue.
