Jun 16, 2020 Rating Jack Russell Terrier Puppy is Nipping by: julie Hi James, If you're playing with your puppy and they nip at your hand...make a neutral noise calmly and stop playing with them/ignore them until the nipping has stopped. Then give them praise/treat. This teaches them that nipping means the fun has ended and they won't get more attention until they have calmed down. If they are teething on you and hurt you, say "ouch" loudly. Ignore them--reward them with praise/treats when they can be near you without chewing on you. Never do anything like yell/hit your puppy--this will make them afraid of you and could cause them to be aggressive when they are older.
