Jack Russell Terrier scared at the dog park and on daily walk

by kimberly

I took my young male JR to the dog park for the first time and he was scared of all the dogs, some of which were a lot larger than he. He's usually very playful in one-on-one settings with smaller dogs. Should I continue bring him again? He also tends to bark and lunge at all dogs on our daily do I teach him to stop?

It sounds like your Jack needs a little more socialization. He is probably scared of those bigger dogs since he is so little. Do you have a friend with a bigger dog that you can do a play date with? Or maybe you can find someone at the dog park with a bigger dog. Keep your dog on the leash and maybe hold him while a bigger dog can sniff (briefly). Short exposures like this can help a puppy or little dog become more comfortable.
