I have a 9 yr old beagle and his sister just died thinking of getting a jack russell dog 6 yrs old to keep him company do you think they will be comparable beagle is very mellow?

I think that would be a good combination. I would get another female if you do get a Jack Russell. Jacks do have a lot of energy but as with most dogs, the older the dog the more mellow they usually become. Make sure if you do get another dog that you introduce the two of them very slowly to each other.
