Jack Russells and urination/malting

Hi, was wondering if short haired jack russells malt more

than the wire haired ones. Also do the males cock there leg and pee more often than there female counterpart?

Male Jack Russell Mix Holding Urine
by: Susan

We adopted a 14 month old male jack russell mix from an animal rescue 2 weeks ago. He seems to hold his urine more than other dogs we have had in the past. We take him outside 8:30-9:00 pm at night before bed and he will not pee the next morning until after 7:00 am when he has his breakfast and not much during the day (unless it is very short and we are missing it). Is this unusual? Thanks for responding.

Shedding and urination
by: Anonymous

The word out there is that short haired JRT's shed more than the rough coat JRT. It is a problem that I have experienced aswell. A good daily brushing with a softer brush helps a lot. Also bathing him with a sponge has also helped to remove a lot of loose hair.

Male dogs will cock their legs to urinate and do seem to urinate more often than females, simply because they mark territory with shorter "sprays" of urine and not just because they need to relieve themselves.

Urination

Yes, the males do cock and pee more....it's their "calling card" per se.

Malting
by: John

I don't know about the urination but in terms of the malting, I usually see more during seasonal changes. I read about using higher quality food and cod liver oil. That has really helped my dog. I also bought the Furminator off of Amazon (medium sized). It had great reviews and a friend recommended it. I feel that these things combined cut down on the hair by a lot. We still see some of course but not the same quantity.
