My JR is about 8-9 yrs old (he was a rescue, I got him about 3 yrs ago) He has gone from a perfectly healthy dog overnight to not being able to walk. He moped around a day or so first (has had this behaviour twice in the past year - took him to the vet and they found no cause, and it cleared up as quickly as it came) but this time it affected his legs and he cannot get up. The vet thought he might have white shaking dog syndrome as he was also shaking a lot. He has just finished his 3rd day on Prenisone (20mg) but not much improvement. Now he is also having severe cramping and diarrhea. Has anyone had a similar situation? - I am desperate to save this brave little dog.

White Shaking Dog Syndrome

Thank you for your words of encouragement. I am not completely sure if he has been correctly diagnosed - perhaps a 2nd opinion is in order, maybe a neurologist vet. After months on Predisone and then tapering down, he began just last night showing the same symptoms as before - head hanging down, weakness and lethargy. So back on the Prednisone, I am assuming for life, though I have a call into the vet so we'll see what he says. But again thank you, and if you know of anyone/anyplace with more info on this illness, it would be grealy appreciated.

So sorry to hear about your little guy. It must be tough to watch him go through this. While it usually doesn't affect JRT's it does sometimes. If he was correctly diagnosed, the good news is that the outcomes are typically good and your dog is not experiencing pain. However your dog may have to be on the corticosteroids for a few months.
Keep up posted on how he's doing!
