Jrt's and cats

I have a one year old jrt and a 7 year old cat. From day one my cat didn't like jack my jrt. I tried to get them to know one another and things weren't so great from the get go. As soon as Jack started barking that was it, my cat was afraid.

Lately, since he's been neutered about a month now he's been running upstairs which was off limits to him from day one. He's always respected our rules since that is her place to be, not his. But his getting neutered has shown a different side of him.
I have put her on my bed, and brought Jack up on the bed he would just stare quietly and then there was a moment that he had me fooled and lunged towards her. Not good, not good!
Tonight we were sitting in the kitchen and Jack off and on was darting up the stairs. My cat came down thinking that he may have been put away for the night and jumped on the kitchen stool. Jack was 3 feet away, when she meowed I was horrified, picked her up as I knew she wouldn't have time to run and she clawed me good with her back claws and went to make a run for it. Jack grabbed her with his teeth, pulled out a tonne of hair and my heart stopped. Thankfully there was no harm done to my cat, but now I am determined that he is out to kill her. Help, what do i do?

I have from early on exposed them to one another. My cat is a major priss and she's always been that way. I do feel very sorry for her because her daytime lounging in the living room under the window has become a thing of the past since we've had jack now.
My baby left to school a few weeks ago and I haven't been watching television in the living room anymore, so now I go up to my room much earlier and my cat is enjoying some alone time with me. That makes me happy to spend that few moments with her. I only wish in a perfect world they could lay in the sun under the window together, but that is not to be. I don't want to get rid of either one of them, I love them so much. But.....I love Jack so much more and I do feel bad for my feelings. But we connect and he's filling a huge void for me right now.

I have a 16mnth old Jackapoo and I had a 21yr old neutered male cat who recently had to be put to sleep but I also have a 15yr old neutered female cat and she does not like my Jackapoo. He keeps trying to make friends, he is not at all aggressive with her, but she does not want to have anything to do with him. I have, for his own sake, had to keep them separate as she will just fly at him and claw him. It is not always the fault of the dog, sometimes cats do not want to be bothered. Because I want my cat to have some time with me, I put my dog into his crate about 10pm for the night and spend an hour with her on my knee and that keeps her happy. They will never be friends but at least you can spend time with both separately.

Separate them - this will take a lot of patience and vigilance on your part. Then gradually introduce them again. He is obviously jealous of your attention to her and not sure why the neutering made it worse. Perhaps you could ask your vet. This separation could take months (patience) Otherwise you will have to give up one which I know you don't want. You are right though, he will try to kill her until he can accept her again and she can tolerate him. Good luck!
