I have a 4 year old rough coated Jack Russell, who has always been picky about food. However, nowadays just the sound of the dry food going into the bowl and he will put his tail between his legs and skulk out of the kitchen. I do add a little bit of fish too it and that seemed to help. I then, completely ignore him and get on with things in the kitchen and eventually he comes back and eats, most of the time, but sometimes he just wont - if he doesn't I leave the bowl for approx.20 minutes and then pick it up until the next day.

Is this normal for Jack's?

Jack not interested in food
by: Jane

It could be that he is just a little bored with his food. I would try mixing a new dog formula with his old one to see if that peaks his interest. And try a variety of food toppers like yogurt, chicken, cooked beef, pumpkin. You can also buy a special "gravy" topper at a pet store.

If there is still an issue after that then it can't hurt to get him checked out by the vet since it seems like this is unusual behavior for him.
