At his age he probably only needs to be fed morning and night, get a good quality dog food and feed him as directed on the pack according to his weight, he should still be on puppy food until he is 12 months old. He is probably chewing a lot because he is teething at this age so get him some chew toys to help him along.

Feeding 5 month old and chewing
by: Rita

I would check the back of the bag of your kibble and divide it into either 2 or 3 daily feedings.

At 5 months, you dog is in a big chewing stage most likely due to teething but it could also be due to boredom. Make sure you have plenty of chewing type toys like a Kong. You can fill the Kong with treats like peanut butter and biscuits and then freeze it. The freezing will make his gums feel better and will take him longer to get to the treats inside. When your Jack tries to chew I would say "no" sharply and then give him an appropriate toy. Also, you are going to have to be vigilant about keeping stuff of the ground!
