I have a 15 year old female jack russell. I got her when she was a pup. What a dog, best little friend ever. Now that she is older her hearing is about gone, eye sight still ok, but we are having more frequent accidents on my carpet and last night my bed. Should I start putting a diaper on her?

Jack getting older
by: Vera

It's hard to watch out little pups get older. The one issue with diapers is that dogs get used to it and forget that they need to go outside. Maybe try some other things first before trying a diaper. You can restrict her access in the house - keep her off your bed and away from carpeted areas. You can layer her bed area with blanket in case she has an accident there. You may also want to put her on a schedule of when you take her out so that her bladder is consistently empty. Also reward her with treats as soon as she goes outside so that she continues to associate the outside with something good. And take her water bowl away 2 hours before bedtime. If none of this helps, you may want to give diapers a try especially during the night when she won't have a walk for a while.
