My 3 year old female ~JR has just lost a tooth

by Ed O'Brien

I wonder how normal this is in a 3 year old dog. She seems very healthy otherwise. I don't remember our only previous dog, a labrador ever lsoing any teeth other than puppy teeth. No other health issues in her 3 year lifespan.

Adult Jack Russell lost a tooth
by: Sandra

Adult dogs are not supposed to lose teeth.....but it's not uncommon, mine has lost a few. One reason is that it could be periodontal disease. Another issue could be a metabolic disorder that affects the bones. And the most common reason among dogs is some kind of trauma to the mouth usually due to a rock or a ball. One tooth is not a big deal but you should get it checked out by a vet just to make sure it's not something more serious.
