My 16 week old jack russell is still biting, he plays with our fully grown female and bites holes into her, how do I stop him from biting us?

Hello Candice,
You need to teach your puppy to have a softer bite. Your female, when she has had enough will put a stop to it just as an elder pack member would put an end to it. But I suggest you teach him to have a softer bite before it comes to that. Depending on your bitch’s personality and your puppy’s personality as you want to keep the peace between them. When he is playing with you and bites too hard you can yelp, high pitch and loud enough to where it surprises him and he stops trying to figure out what just happened. When he is playing with you and before he starts biting too hard praise him and tell him “Easy Bite” or “Be Easy”. Then if you can withstand the discomfort involved; when he bites too hard, do not react to it. Don’t pull your hand back, and don’t say anything. If you pull your hand back and say “Ouch” he is going to see this as playing with him. If you have no reaction to him and your hand stays limp then he will think of this toy isn’t “fun” anymore, and will find something else to play with. If he approaches your hand again and begins mouthing you again, be tough and don’t react to it. If he continues to play too rough then remove yourself from the situation where he can’t play with you. Be consistent with him and soon he will learn that as long as he “bites easy” he can play with you. If he plays to rough and bites to hard then he doesn’t have you to play with. Hope this helps. Hugs

Well I've noticed that he mainly bites when my boyfriends brothers rough him up, then he'll jump at my face and bite hands really hard, is that normal? The only time I let him chew me gently is when he wants to sleep then he almost teeths on me or have I got it wrong? I've also bought him like ropes for him to chew on but he always goes for lids??? He's also very dependant on me, he follows me around everywhere and cries if he can't see me, is that a bad thing? I just don't want to let him out my sight

Hello, one thing that worked for our jack was I would yell really loud when he was biting owwww and he would let go and back off still works too. He used to bite my husbands ankles cause he knew better than to bite mine. But....when he bit mine I would say sternly excuse me, and that worked.
Good luck.
