Oct 25, 2011 Rating Jack Russell honking noise by: Anonymous It sounds like it might be a "reverse sneeze". It's fairly common and usually benign. It's caused by a spasm in the soft palate/laryngeal area. It makes a honking sound. I would check with your vet just to make sure and to rule out anything else like a respitory infection. There is no medication for reverse sneezing - it's something that dogs just live with but can worsen when a dog's excited, pulling on a leash or around allergens.
