New baby

by Karen

Hi my jack Russell is 6 years old and my daughter has just had a new baby, she is living with me but we cannot have the baby in the room at the same time she is quite anxious about the baby and when he cries she barks at him crying, her dad said he would take Daisy my dog to his home and maybe I could get a virtual baby to see how she reacts to that, what would you suggest.

Jack Russell anxious about new baby

You are right about not leaving the Jack unattended with the baby especially if your Jack is getting anxious (and really up until the age of 7 years). If there is a way to have the Jack stay elsewhere for the time being, that might be best for everyone's stress levels, having a new baby in itself is very stressful. In the meantime, you could practice having the Jack listen to various types of baby sounds - crying, cooing, etc. You could also give the dog the baby's onesie to sleep with so she can get accustomed to his scent.
