Hi recently, more so over the last month my 16month old male J.R.T Dex has become seriously aggressive towards other male dogs. Not just any male dogs, medium to large male dogs . He dont just make a noise or show teeth , he full on goes into attack .

He came within seconds of being killed a week ago as he fliped on a StaffxPitt type dog and Dex latched on to the rump of this dog .
I understand he needs to be castrated ASAP as my vet last week told me this will help ????
Im unsure of the behaviour benefits of this as it done NOTHING to my last dogs behaviour.
Please can anyone offer a clue as to why the aggression is so servere so suddenly ??And offer any ideas as to how I can get my old dog back ? He is currently 100% with people .

follow up after neautering
by: Nicky

Well after having my J,R,T castrated last month , I am so angry, miffed and confused as Its not helped with the aggression at all .Plus since being done he has started being distructive indoors. He waits at the door for the postman .as soon as the letters start coming through thats it he rips it up . He had a nip at my leg on monday , and all I done was try to correct him whilst playing up on the lead .
So our future is bleak at moment
Regards Nicky & Dex

NEUTERING IS A MUST
by: Anonymous

VETS ALL AGREE, THAT EVERY ANIMAL NOT SELECTED SPECIFICALLY FOR BREEDING SHOULD BE NEUTERED. THEY MAKE BETTER PETS, AND IT ABSOLUTELY DOES MINIMIZE AGGRSSIVE BEHAVIORS. IF ONE WAITS UNTIL THE DOG IS OLDER, MANY BEHAVIOR PATTERNS ARE ALREADY SET IN, UNFORTUNATELY, YOUR DOG HAS BITTEN, AND YOU MAY HAVE A PROBLEM ON YOUR HANDS GOING FORWARD. I WOULD SUSPECT IT SO.
NEUTERING WILL DEFINITELY HELP, EVEN AT THIS LATE DATE , HOWEVER. I ENCOURAGE NEUTERING RIGHT AWAY..
