peeing and pooing in wrong place

we need help trainning our jack russells to peel downstairs in his cage on his patch of grass. Not on our balcony which he can come up from his cage on a ramp. We just want him to be able to go down when he needs to go by him self. We can shut him down there but thats at night and when we are out for more than hour.

Peeing and pooing

Hi Charmaine,
Does he sleep in the cage as well? Usually dogs don't like to sleep and make in the spot. Is there another spot that you could put the grass, maybe that would help?

PEEING /POOING
by: charmaine

thankyou for your advised on peeing and pooing.I am at the moment taking him down every 2 hours to his grass. He has a cage down under our balcony which has an in close ramp to take him up top.The patch of grass is in his cage, so he can get to it anytime he likes to pee/poo.After every meal he is left down in his cage to do a wee/poo on the grass about half an hour and he does.we then un block ramp entre and he aloud to come up top.

Jack Russell peeing and pooing

If your Jack has been in an area you don't want him to, you will need to thouroughly clean that area with an enzyme based cleaner that is made for pets. Dogs have a strong sense of smell and will want to use that area again to pee/poop if they can smell any traces of previous times they have gone. Regular cleaning products don't cover the smell. You can buy the special cleaner through a pet store or online like at Amazon.

I want to make sure I understand this correctly - you want your Jack to pee/poop on the grass near his cage, not in his cage, right? In order to do that you may have to block off the balcony for a little bit so he doesn't have access. And then you might need to take him to the area you want him to make and teach his a command like "go pee on the grass (while you point to the grass). Take him to this spot on a schedule - every few hours and say the same command. Make sure to reward him with praise and/or a treat for going. I would try the schedule and blocking off of the balcomy for a week and see if he gets it by then.
