My four month old puppy keeps peeing in the kitchen. I try to confine her to the kitchen so if she has any accidents that's where the occur but she's also peeing there when I'm taking her out the back at regular intervals and praising her. She tends to pee when I come home to her and she's all excited - any hints on how to minimise her peeing indoors?

Peeing in kitchen
by: Becca

She's still young so it sounds like she is not completely potty trained yet. Make sure you buy a good enzyme based cleaner because dogs have a very keen sense of smell and will pee again in spots they can sniff out - you can get the cleaner at pet stores. Have you tried crating her? Dogs will usually not pee in places they sleep. Also, in terms of peeing when she's excited - when you come and go from the house, make sure you don't rev her up. In fact completely ignore her until she has a calm body. If she is still having issues, you can try the leash methd where you have her attached to you while in the house so that you have control over what she is doing and you can catch her is she looks like she might pee.
