Running with my 13 yr. old jack

Hi, I have a 13 year old jack russell and I'm also a beginner runner. I have been running 2 miles, but usually drop him and my other female jack off at the house after about a mile. Today I ran 1.5 miles with him. I also have an 8 year old overweight female jack russell. When finishing the run my overweight 8 yr. female seems to pant longer and harder than my 13 year old. How long of a run is OK to take him on? Also, I should tell you that the vet found some masses about pea size on an x-ray back in March and wanted to send us through chemotherapy. I opted out because I want him to live out the rest of his life and don't want to make him sick by pumping him full of drugs. He seems to be great except for a cough every now and again. I have gone the holistic route with him and he gets so excited once I pull that leash and harness out. I just really feel that he seems fine minus the cough every now and again and he seems to enjoy his running. I would just like to know how far you would suggest I could run him?

Running with Jack
by: Jamie

Running is a great way to keep healthy....for you and your Jacks. Because your Jack has a known illness I would not increase the distance anymore, the amount you are doing is perfect. Make sure both pups are well hydrated afterwards and have plenty of time to rest including a day or so between runs. When or if either dog doesn't seem to want to go then I wouldn't force them. Other than that, enjoy!
