by sarah- older jack russell terrier- would she get along with a jack russell terrier puppy?

We have a 5 year old jack russell bitch . She is good natured with the children . We have a footpath that runs along side the house which she keeps a dutiful watch over and runs up to greet all dogs and owners. She is ok with most but but if feels threatened can snap. Is she too old to introduce another puppy?I Was thinking it would be better to get a jack russell dog this time , rather than another bitch. Thanks sarah
