Separation Anxiety

I got my Jack Russell/Chihuahua mix when she was about 6 weeks old, over a year ago. I live with my brother and parents and we all give her attention and love on her. She sleeps with me everynight and I am the primary one that is home with her all day. Lately, everytime I leave for a weekend or a few days (I usually leave her with my parents), she becomes upset and depressed. She has started running and hiding under my bed. I'm feeling kind of guilty, I'm getting married in June and moving out of state and taking her with me isn't really an option.

My family and I went on vacation for a week last month and left her at the vet. It took her several days to get back to normal. She didn't want to eat for a few days and she just didn't act normal.

I'm not sure if something is wrong with her, and I hate to ignore it if something is.

Thanks,
Olivia

Anxiety in Jack Russell chihuahua mix NEW
by: cindy humphrey

My jack Russell/chihuahua mix started having anxiety attacks
Very recently, she cries, shakes and wants to get in her kennel.
We are very worried about her. She is very attached to my mother and I,I took her to the vet to find out what is wrong and
The vet said he could find nothing physically wrong with her that she is a healthy little dog, he said she seemed to have some anxiety issues and he prescribed some medicine. We give it to her only when she needs it. I,m supposed give it to her three times a day, but, it kinda spaces her out. Any suggestions?

Jack Russell/Chi separation anxiety

It sounds like your dog is reacting to all the changes going on. I think she is confused because you have been leaving her on the weekends and then the trip really through her off. I wonder if it is time for your family to take over more of the daily care taking duties - like walking and stuff- so that she is used to that and isn't so attached to you. And when you go away for weekends you can leave a shirt that you have worn that week so that she has your scent.
