Severe Allergies

by sfinfrock

Hi! I have had my sweet jack since she was 8wks old. She will be 14 in april. Her name is Lily and she's my shadow. For her entire life she has had awful allergies. I have tried food elimination diets, Rx food, many allergy prescriptions, tea tree oil, coconut oil, etc. I've even had her on the new "miracle" allergy medicine, Apoquel. She will scractch and lick herself raw. Then she gets secondary infections. The only thing that gives her relief is steroids, but I don't want to use them. I havent had her take any of those for about two years now. Has anyone experienced this and if so, what have you tried? I would just like to find some relief for her. She doesnt know what it's like to be a "normal" dog.

Thank you!

I don't like steroids but I think the 14 yr old JR should go back on them if they offer some relief.
My 7 month JR is showing allergy symptoms & We have started bathing her with a Doggy Oatmeal Shampoo which does seem to help her. Still exploring herbal medication & living in hope that we find one sooner rather than later.
Would welcome any advise.

Same problem

We have a 3 year old Jack too, and he has the same problem.WE have tried all the foods for allergies you can try, eliminated foods etc. He"s been on several meds as well and the only thing that works is steriods.
We keep a dog shirt on him all the time as well as a bandana as this covers his scratching areas.
He'll scratch, but alot less damage is done.
We are looking for a "cure" too.
I do make his food now, because he will scratch less.he is on a fish and potato diet with a supplement called Hilory's Blend from the vet.
Sorry we couldn't be more help..but you are not alone with this problem.
