I have not thought about bringing in a professional trainer for a number of reasons. My jack is a very well behaved little man and the one and only complaint I have is that he likes to bark at other dogs while on walks. We put the shock collar on him only a few times. most times its not even on, and he's so obedient. I have been walking him without it and he's good. I do take it with me on our walks in my pocket. At the very last resort I just need to show it to him. He's a very smart little guy and he's figured out what it is. We did not hurt him whatsoever with that shock collar, it wss a scare tactic that has worked.

I think it it cruel and inhumane to use shock collars on any breed of dog. There are better ways of training. Have you thought of bringing in a professional trainer to try and resolve the problem.

Hello, the shock collar is used for barking, my jack is so good but his barking at other dogs is an absolute embarrassment. So much so that I do not want to take him out at all anymore. He goes nuts when he sees other dogs/animals. So my husband went out and got the shock collar. I put it on him we go out for walks and it's amazing. I don't even turn it on I just put the collar on and hold the controls. He's so different, he walks right by other dogs now with no problems at all. We have it set on the mildest setting, I tested it believe me, jacks my baby and would never ever hurt him. Its a mild tingle uncomfortable but not painful.

The bark collar i found was painful and returned that without question. My husband might zap him a bit more than i would by i don't need to he listens way better with me. So it's not used to zap the heck outta the little guy at all. I have tried everything to get the barking to stop and nothing worked. Thanks for responding!

I think these should only be used as an absolute last resort since there are more humane ways to train JRTs. What will you be using the shock collar for?

Here is one that has some good reviews on amazon:
