Skin Rash

by Janice
(Boston)

My 8 month old puppy has developed a skin rash on his underside hind legs (armpits I call it) and now little bit around his mouth. He has been on medication (cefpodoxime) but the rash keeps returning. His food is Nutro - Lamb/rice. All grain foods have been removed and no treats at all.Has any one experienced this problem, possibly have an answer. will this eventually go away. I am looking for possible solution/alternate treatment/reason for rash ?

JRT with skin rash NEW

Sorry to hear your little guy can't shake this rash! There are a few things for you to try. Have you done an elimination diet? I would talk to your vet about that. Maybe there is something in your current food (even though there are no grains) that is causing the rash. Something else to think about it a medicated shampoo or a natural bath. Epsom salt baths and oatmeal baths work wonders for healing many types of skin problems such as dry skin and allergic reactions. Add 1 cup of oats in a blender and blend to create a fine powder. Add the powder to a warm bath. Bathe your dog in the oatmeal for at least 10 minutes and then rinse him off. To make an Epsom salt bath, add 2 cups of Epsom salt and ½ cup of baby oil to a bath of warm water. Bathe your dog for 10 minutes and then rinse him off. Adding fish oil to your Jac's diet can't hurt either and might help. Take a look around your environment to see if there is anything that might set off the rash - like chemicals in the lawn.
