We call our dog pee boy

by Vicki
(Cincinnati)

My Jack Russell is mostly house broken, BUT... he pees on my husband. He will spend hours on his lap vegging with him then the next thing you know he pees on him. Yesterday he jumped up on him and as he was walking peed on him then jumped off and had that I just ate the canary look on his face. He knew he was wrong.

Help anyone?

Dear Piddling Jack's
by: Anonymous

They ARE wonderfully sweat dogs with more personality than most people have, although this peeing on people is not cool!! One who answered my plea said that he'd just get a belly band and call it a day. I am going to try that. My dog, Spud, just nick named Pee Boy, occasionally has an accident in the house, but for the most part he asks to go outside. When he does pee inside it is usually on the run. He will get this look on his face that says he knows he's wrong and pee as he walks.
Oh well, like you, I am stuck with it because he's not going anywhere, he's ours and we are his.

Thanks for your response.

I've had one that was just the same! Anything new in the house Louis just had to 'christen' it! I remember being at a horse show with him years ago, elderly woman perched on straw bale in front of us, chatting away merrily to her pal. She got something out of her handbag and left it open at her feet .... OMG! I glanced down and saw Louis in his usual three legged postion!!! He damn near filled the bag, and I didn't dare make a fuss, I just gently and quietly pulled him
away and beat a hasty retreat. I am so sorry Elderly Lady if you are reading this, but I didn't know what to do! Louis would wander over to any fishermen sitting watching their all important floats, absorbed with watching for a bite, only to have him piddle up their unknowing backs, or in their tents. Oh Heck, I could go on and on. What a terrible owner I must be, leaving a trail of Louis pee everywhere. He was just the same in the house, in our shoes, everywhere and anywhere. I had him put down in January of this year. He was 17.5 years old and very poorly. I never managed to cure him of his habit, the house smells a whole lot better without him, but I miss him like hell. Love you Louis, wherever you are honey!! Incidentally, none of my other Jack Russells have been like it, I still have two, and am collecting my new pup in a month. Brilliant dogs - love them all!!!

Pee boy

When your Jack pees on people, is it only when in their laps? Does he pee in other places in the house?

Even though it may not seem like a medical problem, it can never hurt to absolutely rule that out especially since he seems so well behaved otherwise.

If it is not medical it could be that he is marking territory. In that case, you would work on building up confidence by running through training every day, making him work for treats, maybe even obedience school so that he can get some socializing in too.

Pee Boy is 9 months old. This is not new, he has done it since he was 3 or 4 months old. He is neutered. I don't understand, he is so smart. He will sit, stay, speak, lay down and roll over on command. I tell him to go get his toy and bring it to me and he does.

I thought about the uti but he sleeps all night in bed with us and there are no problems there.

He has never peed on me just my husband, our son and our daughter when she was visiting.

Thanks for you input.

Is the dog neutered? If not then that may help. If he is neutered then I would just put a belly band on him and call it a day.

Jack urinating in lap
by: Jenna

How old is your Jack? Is this a recent issue? Is he neutured?
It might be good to take him to the vet to make sure it isn't a urinary tract infection or something of the sort.
