by Brandy
(Indianapolis , Indiana)

I have a 3 year old Female JR . I put her in the Bathroom when I leave or its time for bed. She will sit there and whine so loudly the neighbors called the police! I have also left 30 min and came home and she was barking so loud I could hear her outside. Do you have any suggestions on what I can do ? I dont want to get a bark collar but as a last result may have to ....

Whining at Night
by: Michael

One thing I have learned with my JRT, is that he does not like to be left alone. I would maybe try allowing him to sleep in your room, if not on the bed, then maybe try making a bed for her on the floor or a chair so she can at least be near you. My JRT sleeps with me and I love that closeness, as does he. Secondly, as far as leaving her during the day, try small increments of time, building up to longer time. I know mine had terrible anxiety. I left the webcam recording when I went out for half an hour, and he howled the whole time. So, I worked with him and have now been able to leave him for a couple of hours alone. i always leave the television on and leave a shirt of mine with him, so he has something of mine to be close to with my scent. It has really helped. Just be patient.

Jack Russell whining

I'm not sure what your bathroom looks like but I'm not sure it is an appropriate place to leave your dog. Dogs like to be comfortable at night. You should have a crate for her with comfortable bedding and some toys to play with. Dogs crave spots that are closed in like crates. She is probably whining because she is unhappy and bored. If you get a barking collar it is not going to solve the problem it will only mask it and it will come out in other ways, possibly including aggression.
